Workplace Horrors!

Psycho bosses, back-stabbing colleagues and more...

Workplace Horrors!

By Monster Worldwide

A global poll conducted by Monster reveals that the most feared workplace horrors are psycho bosses and back-stabbing colleagues. Respondents were split evenly on the terrors- each accounting for 40% of votes. Less frightening options, silent-as-a-grave workplaces and working into the witching hours of the night, accounted for 10% of votes each.
“Even the happiest workers can dislike an aspect of their workplace,” said Mary Ellen Slayter, Career Advice Expert for “It’s sensible to keep track of what disturbs you at work, so long as you address your grievances productively. Complaints should be specific and prioritized, not vague and idle. If something troubles you on a regular basis, don’t just think to yourself ‘I hate when this happens’ and then ignore the issue until it upsets you again.”
Slayter advises, “Consider the details of your problem and take notice of important factors: frequency, associated people or tasks, and cost to productivity should be assessed when planning a course of action. Be honest with yourself in your assessment; know the difference between ‘want’ and ‘need’, and be realistic about what changes are viable in your work environment. If you find yourself needing changes but unable to make them, it’s possible your workplace itself is what needs changing.”
Monster, the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. ·         40% of respondents fear “a psycho boss”
·         40% of respondents fear “back-stabbing colleagues”
·         10% of respondents fear “a silent-as-the-grave workplace”
·         10% of respondents fear “having to work into the witching hours of the night”
Breaking down the numbers by region, European respondents were more likely to blame their workplace horrors on back-stabbing colleagues—it was the top response in the UK (45%), France (58%), Germany (40%), Netherlands (57%), and Finland (50%). North Americans are more terrified by a psycho boss; 42% of Canadian respondents and 44% of US respondents chose this option.

However French Canadians, Joie de Vivre, shows that they are definitely much more terrified of working into the witching hours of the night (33% of respondents) and fear more a "back-stabbing colleague" (29% of the respondents) over a "psycho boss" which obtained a 21% in the polls.

Workers in the Netherlands are almost fearless when it comes to working late: only 7% named it as their workplace nightmare. A silent workplace isn’t scary to most Germans, where only 7% of respondents chose this option.
