ABOUT FORT MCKAY

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray. Fort McKay offers the best of both worlds: remote northern life for the nature lover and proximity to a large city of about 70,000 people with all the amenities you need.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and creative Communications and Content Managerwho is flexible and works well in a team environment to join the FMFN Team! The Communications and Content Manager will support the Director of Communications with the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies and oversee content management. This role will source, create, and provide communications content to engage with key audiences across all communications channels. You will work closely with a small communications team to support the organizational culture, mission, vision, values, strategic priorities of Chief and Council, member relations, media relations, and operational program and service goals of various departments. This is a full-time salaried position based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementation of Internal and External Strategic Communications
  • Work with and support the Director of Communications to strategize and implement communications plans for employees and community/FMFN members
  • Implement best practices to monitor communications effectiveness
  • Accountable for the overall distribution of content through various channels, including media, website, social media, newsletter, community radio, and other communication channels.
  • Resource and manage communication content, guidance, and review of all collateral and messaging and ensure quality
  • Manage day-to-day workflow of internal client requests using Monday.com
  • Build relationships with subject matter experts across the organization
  • Align communications strategies and collateral with engagement objectives
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline and at least 3-5 years’ experience in a marketing position, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience
  • Experience writing content for various platforms, including websites, news releases and news letters
  • Lives Fort McKay First Nation’s organizational values - People, Accountability, Culture, and Equity
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and priorities a define asset
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and traditions an asset
  • Awareness and sensitivity to realities of First Nations people and communities
  • Ability to speak either Dene or Cree language an asset
  • A valid class 5 drivers’ license as travel will be necessary
  • Note: Depending on travel requirements, a valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract are required
