Job Introduction

Location: Canada (must live & have permission to work in Canada on a permanent basis) 100% remote work-from-home position. Canadian residents only.

Pay Rate: $20 CAD per hour (Paid via PayPal, Monthly) 

Contract: 12-month contract with an extension likely. Self-employed contractor responsible for own taxes. No benefits. 

Hours of work: Part Time 20 hours or Full Time 37.5 hours per week available.

The Role:

As an Indigenous History and Culture Specialist Teacher Content Writer and Editor for Twinkl Canada, you will be involved in planning, organizing, creating and editing resources and other content for the site. This role will specialize in creating Twinkl resources on Indigenous peoples, including history, culture, language, traditional teachings and current events from an authentic perspective. 

You will also be writing category descriptions, blogs and more for our Canadian customers. You will need to have a strong, current working knowledge of the intermediate/junior and primary curriculum, as well as experience of working within a school in Canada. 

You will use your knowledge to develop resources and your content will be turned into a finished product for Twinkl by our highly skilled design and illustration team. Training in teaching Indigenous culture, history and how to administer these lessons will be of the utmost importance. In this role, you will:

  • Work with the Canadian team in creating and editing resources in line with provincial and territorial curricula;
  • Complete administrative tasks which will focus on your professional development and career goals;
  • Support other content writers/editors to help check resources (quality control);
  • Create innovative materials to accompany themes and events;
  • Ensure you hit your KPIs and targets by learning our process and working efficiently;
  • Forge relationships within the Indigenous education community in order to identify and lead on future partnership opportunities;
  • Develop greater commercial awareness so we can understand the needs of those we want to help.


You’ll work with:

  • Natalie Alves (Twinkl Canada Country Manager)
  • Tony Thornton (Twinkl Canada Teacher Team Leader)
  • Other teachers and team members – the team consists of Team Leaders, Content Writers/Editors, Graphic Designers, Illustrators, Marketing Assistants and SEO Growth Specialists all working together to create material and innovate together.

Requirements

To succeed in the role, you will:

  • Be Indigenous and reside on Turtle Island so you can write content from your own authentic perspective;
  • Currently be a qualified elementary teacher with full class responsibility working in a school with a minimum of 2 years experience;
  • Have a sound, current working knowledge of Indigenous history and culture and qualifications or experience teaching this in a school with a minimum of 2 years experience;
  • Have a sound, current working knowledge of the existing intermediate and primary framework;
  • Bring fresh ideas and a good insight into what teachers want and need, and how to execute this;
  • Execute excellent spelling and grammar;
  • Be comfortable in prioritizing, organizing and project planning;
  • Be able to execute on projects - we are looking for people who like to get things done;
  • Have effective time management skills;
  • Be comfortable pivoting on current projects to new opportunities as they arise;
  • Show the ability to work under your own initiative and take your own creative direction with minimum supervision.


We’re are especially interested in anyone who also meets the following: 

  • Previous experience as a writer & editor (either personally or professionally);
  • Fluent French speakers.


Please note: We are not looking for any candidates who are not of Indigenous descent, are from outside of Canada or candidates who have not had experience working in education, preferably Indigenous education in public or private schools in Canada in the last 5 years.
