Golder ( Member of WSP) has a new opportunity for a Bilingual Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Consultant to join our Environmental Group on a full-time basis in Ottawa.

The EHS Consultant's responsibilities will include:

  • Providing proposal development, project execution, client relationship management, and project management, related to the following Environmental health and safety (EHS) services:
    • Industrial hygiene (IH), including qualitative and quantitative workplace assessments, exposure monitoring for chemical, biological and physical hazards.
    • Indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments and investigations including air quality monitoring for comfort and health related parameters and visual assessment and review building equipment and systems.
    • Water quality evaluations including drinking water assessments, Legionella testing and management plans, and others.
    • Hazardous materials and designated substances building surveys, including baseline and project-specific site assessments for asbestos, lead, silica, mercury, PCB, ODSs, mould, and other hazardous materials. Preparing, developing, and tendering remediation specifications for hazardous materials remediation, including asbestos, lead, and mould, etc . Providing on-site inspection services for hazardous materials and environmental remediation programs, including contractor oversight, air monitoring, and reporting.
    • EHS regulatory compliance and internal management system audits (and other EHS-related audits) and related tasks, such as generating EHS legal registers, due diligence audits, etc.
    • Other EHS-type assessments and client services such as Safety Data Sheet review and authoring, confined spaces assessments, safety assessments, among others.
  • Project proposal development, including but not limited to:
    • Responding to client requests and published requests for proposals (RFPs).
    • Developing scope of work, including assumptions and limitations.
    • Cost estimates.
    • Assessing opportunity risk.
    • Proposal authoring.
  • Project execution, including but not limited to:
    • Conducting field assignments, such occupational exposure assessments, hazardous materials and designated substances building surveys, IAQ investigations, mould assessments and investigations, remediation oversight, water sampling, EHS audits, etc.
    • Preparing technical reports, including documentation of audits and field investigation procedures, data management and interpretation, and development of graphical and tabular presentation of data.
  • Providing project management services, including but not limited to:
    • Initiating and managing projects from the proposal stage to completion.
    • Managing project scopes of work and budgets.
    • Tracking and approving time and expenses to projects, allocating staff and resources, compiling invoicing information and maintaining project files.
    • Scheduling and supervising resources to ensure projects are progressing efficiently.
    • Generating reports and corresponding with clients.
    • Identifying and rectifying site issues and project concerns.
    • Invoicing.
  • Client relationship management, including but is not limited to:
    • Developing and maintaining good working relations with existing and perspective clients.
    • Project delivery (meeting client needs, managing expectations, regular communication).
    • Seeking out new clients and client opportunities.

    • Weekly health and safety shares.
    • Active participation in health and safety learning database tools.
    • Demonstration of safety-first mentality when performing work.
    • Contribute or lead in the preparation of project-specific health and safety plans for every project.
  • Additional responsibilities of the EHS consultant include:
    • Mentoring junior staff in the Environmental Group and EHS Discipline.
    • Conducting training programs.
    • Participation in global EHS technical community.
  • Assisting in the development and growth of our location and company

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in industrial hygiene or occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering, safety engineering, or related scientific discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant consulting and/or industry experience.
  • In depth knowledge of occupational health and safety and environmental legislation.
  • Proven ability to participate as part of a team of skilled professionals.
  • Must be able to work effectively independently on and within a team.
  • Must possess strong qualities related ownership, accountability, motivation, and work ethic.
  • Demonstrated commitment to execute and deliver the highest quality service.
  • The ability to work weekends and evenings as required to meet project commitments.
  • The ability to communicate in both French and English will be considered an asset.
  • Holding or actively working towards professional accreditation such as CIH or ROH, CRSP, PEng or EP will be considered and asset.
