About Caribou Mine:

Trevali's Caribou Mine is situated approximately 45km from the city of Bathurst, New Brunswick. Bathurst is considered to be one of the most picturesque communities in Canada in close proximity to a mining operation. It is home to a regional hospital, French and English schools and a wide variety of outdoor activities including golf, swimming (beautiful beaches), hockey, curling, skiing, snowmobiling, boating, fishing and hunting to name a few. Bathurst has an airport that offers daily service to Montreal and it is near the larger centers of Moncton and Fredericton which are easily accessible by main highways. Housing costs are very reasonable when looking at the national average, and the cost of living is lower than in many similar sized mining communities.

Job Posting No. 04 - 2021 Geotech

Position Overview

You bring solid technical knowledge, understanding and experience in rock mechanics, and enjoy seeking out new ways and technology to continuously improve the efficiency and safety of underground mining. As a technical expert within the operation, you will be responsible for all aspects of rock mechanics for our underground mine, and as part of that, you will conduct site inspections for quality assurance and quality control of ground support installations,monitor performance of ground support as mining activities progress and make recommendations based on observations.

Job Duties

  • Assess Ground and Support Installed
  • Prepare and issue Ground Control Prints for Rehab
  • Collect/Evaluate Ground Control Prints for Development
  • Design and implement various geotechnical inspections
  • Perform Ground Control Underground Inspections
  • Perform Geotechnicial Inspections/Investigations of Stopes
  • Perform Geotechnical Inspections/Investigations of development heading
  • Perform Ground Support Quality Control Program, including pull tests
  • Perform Ground Support Audits
  • Issue/Update Scaling Program
  • Monitor Ground Support Materials Inventory
  • Support Ground Control short range planning (weekly), mid range (3month) and long range planning


  • Geotech technician diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years engineering experience in a hard rock underground environment with at least 2 of those years in rock mechanics or ground control
  • Previous experience in a mine atmosphere is high desirable
  • Strong people skills and a desire and ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Must be a self-started and able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Proactive go-getter with a can-do attitude.
  • Analytical, thorough, data driven and accurate.
  • Strong business acumen and possess sound and practical judgement.
  • Team player who also works well independently.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced organization and agile in adapting to the rapid evolution of industry and of technology.

This is a two (2) years contract, with potential for extension. This is an onsite position.
