This position is a fly-in, fly out, camp-based position located at the Kearl Lake client site. Must be able to complete pre-access A&D screening and comply with Kearl Lake site guidelines. Must hold a valid class 5 (minimum) Non-GDL driver's license.

Responsibilities and Duties include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Support of MFM Limited Partnerships (MFM) Senior Management, Site management, Safety team and work teams in implementing, maintaining and executing the MFM/Mikisew Group Safety Management Program
  • Prepare, participate and deliver the HSE component of daily toolbox talk talks, weekly safety meetings monthly safety themes and quarterly stewardship
  • Lead/Assist with development and review of Job Hazard Assessments (JHA), Safe Work Practices (SWP)
  • Investigate and resolve employee concerns that pertain to safety and health-related matters
  • Deliver Client Site Orientation and other specified training as required
  • Maintain and track all training requirements for site-assigned employees
  • Field response to any incidents/urgent situations

Qualifications, Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years Health and Safety experience in an industrial setting (preferred Oilsands or large-scale mining operations)
  • Experience supporting automotive and other mining support services
  • Recognized Occupational Health and Safety designation (OH&S, CRSP, etc.) is preferred
  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing responsibilities and tasks
  • Clear and precise verbal and written English communication skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to demonstrate a personal commitment and positive attitude to the team
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • High degree of knowledge of the following:
    • Alberta OH&S Act Regulation and Code
    • Oilsands Regional Standards; (I.e., Confined Space, Fall Protection etc.)
  • Proven Working knowledge of:
    • Alberta Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Act, Regulation and Codes,
    • National Safety Code

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Recognized Occupational Health and Safety designation (OH&S, CRSP, etc.)
  • Candidates must possess E&I and/or Mechanical trades experience/background
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license with satisfactory Driver’s Abstract (less than 6 demerits)
  • Must be eligible to work on all Mikisew Group Client sites (no history of Site Access being denied by a Client Site)
  • Must have a valid OSSA, CSTS-09 and /or Common Safety Orientation (CSO) certification
  • Successfully complete Client Site Pre- Access Alcohol and Drug (PAAD) testing

Location of work and schedule:

Work shift is a scheduled 14 days on x 14 days off under a Hours of Work Averaging Arrangement (HWAA), 12 hours per day, located at Kearl Lake Site. Schedule and/or hours of work are subject to change based upon MFM or Client Site requirements. Flights provided from Edmonton & Calgary hubs.
