Job Description

SSENSE is looking for a Manager, Product Development & Production to support the execution of new SSENSE product concepts. You will initially report to the Senior Director of Brand Development, and will work closely with several project teams across SSENSE. 

In this role, you will manage relationships with merchandising, designers, suppliers and manufacturers to deliver on the Product Development & Production requirements for assigned concepts.  You will also ensure that all production activities are true to the spirit of SSENSE’s commitment to corporate responsibility.  Key to your success will be fostering collaboration between teams, and using data to support decision-making. Since this is a rapidly changing environment, adaptability and a team-orientation are also critical to success in this role.

This position is located in Montréal, Canada, and you will be expected to travel globally as needed (subject to public health guidelines).


Product Development

  • Manage day-to-day Product Development activities for assigned product concepts, ensuring adherence to budgets and timelines

  • Drive continuous improvement in the Product Development process (Scheduling, Budgeting, Process improvements)

  • Support design vision by conducting relevant market research

  • Develop and manage an integrated planning calendar across all projects; monitor product flow and adherence to timelines from inception through DC receipt

  • Serve as SME for any technology tools required to achieve the above Product Development activities


  • Manage the day-to-day Production activities for assigned product concepts, ensuring adherence to budgets and timelines

  • Negotiate and manage vendor partnerships to support best-in-class cost structures, speed-to-market, quality and innovation. This includes monitoring contracts and in-person visits as needed

  • Monitor on-time deliveries from vendors and troubleshoot problems with the Logistics department

  • Continuously identify areas of opportunity for the build-out of each brand’s production network

  • Partner with SSENSE Corporate Social Responsibility team to ensure adherence to responsible  and ethical sourcing for all Production activities. Develop reporting system to monitor this compliance

  • Continuously improve Quality Control approaches

  • Serve as SME for any technology tools required to achieve the above Production activities

People Leadership & Development

  • Provide mentorship and development opportunities to direct reports, catalyzing growth through coaching and team building

  • Hold weekly one-on-ones, conduct performance reviews, analyze individual KPIs and assess promotion readiness to help each contributor evolve in their roles

  • Ensure team mobilization by regularly gauging team spirit and implementing appropriate means to create a work environment that fosters healthy communication, collaboration and productivity

  • Oversee the on-boarding and training programs for direct reports


  • Minimum 7 years of experience in apparel Product Development and Production

  • A minimum of 3 years in a management position with direct reports

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Excellent project management skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects in line with budget and commercial and technical requirements 

  • Knowledge of fabric construction and manufacturing, garment construction and manufacturing, production cycle timelines, calendar management.  Knowledge of apparel manufacturing and product engineering

  • Experience working collaboratively with a design team

  • Strong understanding of trade regulations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English

  • Ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese or Italian a plus

  • Ability to travel internationally on a frequent basis (subject to public health guidelines)
