Reporting to the General Manager, the Mechanical Supervisor is responsible to manage employees in the maintenance and repair of the locomotive and car fleet to reduce life cycle cost and increase their reliability and availability and also on the car inspection/repair for the railway.

Responsibilities:

The selected individual will perform the following tasks:

  • Maintains a safe working environment for the entire department.
  • Manages the mechanical teams and plans the work to be accomplished.
  • Manages the work process to maintain locomotive periodic maintenance schedule and advise the transportation department when locomotives must be directed to the shop.
  • Assign and monitor progress of work in the different shops.
  • Manages the decisions concerning repairs and maintenance practices of locomotives.
  • Monitor's locomotive dwell time in order to maximize locomotive availability.
  • Manages the work processes to maintain the car repair dwell, efficiency and cost profitability.
  • Insures all car repair are in compliance with GWCI regulations and meet current Transport Canada and AAR standards.
  • Assists employees as necessary to troubleshoot technical malfunctions or equipment.
  • Certifies that locomotive maintenance files are in compliance with GWCI regulations and meet current Transport Canada standards.
  • Participates in the preparation of the budget and performs the work in accordance with the budget and the constraints in place.
  • Manage, coach and mentor employees promoting a safe work environment.  Ensures accidents are reported, safety policies are respected, and there is no negligence towards the industry rules.
  • Creates different reports for company management.
  • All other related tasks. 

General Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Railway Mechanical Department.
  • Flexible with regard to working hours.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Transport Canada regulations pertaining to locomotives.
  • Must be knowledgeable in AAR Standards pertaining to Car repairs.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to train, manage and supervise hourly employees
  • Have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Proficient in MS OFFICE, databases and emails.
