Environmental Resources Management (ERM) is a leading global provider of environmental, health, safety, risk, and social consulting services. We are currently seeking an outstanding Senior Project Manager/Environmental Scientist - Impact Assessment/Permitting, to join our Vancouver office and support our Regulatory and Permitting team.

The role requires experience in management and coordination of natural resource development projects combined with an aptitude and enthusiasm to further develop a technical understanding of the applicable regulatory and permitting requirements. Some exposure to environmental effects analysis, and an interest in applying knowledge and skills to solve complex challenges across multiple sectors including mining, energy, and marine transportation, specifically in British Columbia or Alberta is beneficial. Familiarity with and working knowledge of provincial/territorial and federal regulatory requirements is needed. This posting has tremendous potential for career growth with the successful candidate having opportunities to interact directly with clients and regulators. The successful candidate will be a member of ERM Canada’s Regulatory and Permitting team, and will become a member of an extensive team of global environmental and social experts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Project management and coordination of a variety of permitting, regulatory and environmental impact assessment tasks in support of clients’ projects.

  • Provide technical input and guidance to team members, on application of regulatory and permitting requirements in relation to client projects, with a view to developing technical expertise across sectors and regulatory jurisdictions.

  • Work on multiple projects, supporting management and execution of scope/budget/schedule to meet client's expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.

  • Support engagement activities with regulators, Indigenous groups, communities and stakeholders as part of the project design and permitting process.

  • Execute activities such as permitting strategy and application scoping, information requirements/requests, technical writing, data and regulatory research and review, collection and integration of input from ERM’s subject matter experts, permit and environmental management plans, delegating GIS, data compilation and desktop publishing assignments to support permit applications, and develop recommendations for clients.

  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees worldwide.

  • Contribute to preparation of technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. 

  • Partake in ERM internal and external training opportunities to maintain and grow work-related skills and remain current on changes to regulatory requirements.

  • Actively embrace and support ERM’s leading health and safety training and workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Bachelor degree in Sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field.

  • Professional Designation in good standing, such as P.Geo., P.Eng., R.P.Bio, R.P.F., P.Ag. or eligibility for registration.

  • 7+ years of experience in environmental consulting, or equivalent industry experience within relevant business sectors, e.g., energy, marine, mining.

  • Strong knowledge of capital project management and coordination of multidisciplinary teams that execute on the delivery of complex regulatory and permitting projects.

  • Strong project management skills (e.g., development of work plans, budgets, schedules, and project controls) in a client-facing role.

  • Excellent communication, accounting and organization skills.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment.

  • Experience working as part of an integrated team providing technical deliverables for input into environmental assessment and permit applications.

  • Understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements, compliance management and impact assessment as they relate to mining, oil and gas, green energy, and marine transportation.

  • Knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Territorial regulations and guidelines.

  • Experience with community and stakeholder engagement.

  • Attentive to identifying innovative solutions to complex projects and striving for sustainable outcomes.

  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.
