The Superintendent’s key responsibilities are:

  • Supervise subcontractors, tradespeople, laborers, and suppliers.
  • Ensure proper implementation of construction methods and sequences.
  • Manage logistics, material deliveries, and equipment use.
  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants.
  • Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs, and mentorship with crew.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading quality and safety meetings and inspections.
  • Plan, address and mitigate potential hazards immediately.
  • Track and report project, quality control, resource requirements, and customer or employee relations to the Construction Manager.
  • Ensure all work complies with specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate inspections and tests with quality control teams and third-party inspectors.
  • Track and document deficiencies and oversee corrections.
  • Oversee the job site and ensure the Site Engineer and Foreperson clearly understand their responsibilities and comply with all assignments, project policies, and procedures.
  • Drive quality, efficiency, and productivity of work crews.
  • Direct the Site Engineer and Foreperson on productivity issues and monitor their work performance, ensuring they collaborate effectively with the crews to overcome challenges.
  • Maintain daily logs of activities, manpower, and incidents.
  • Submit regular progress reports to the Construction Manager.
  • Plan and monitor materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain and update look-ahead schedules and daily work plans.
  • Coordinate closely with site engineers to avoid conflicts and delays.
  • Support community engagement and address public inquiries when required.
  • Monitor progress against project timelines and report variances.
  • Follow project plans and budgets while ensuring the Site Engineer and Foreperson perform in alignment with production goals and schedules.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, and ensure the Site Engineer and Foreperson are aligned on work priorities, redirecting crews and equipment effectively to minimize downtime.
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan.
  • Responsible for supervising multiple crews and subcontractors.
  • Develop construction work methods. Plan materials, equipment needs and work schedule for civil operations.
  • Review daily work schedule and productions with Field Engineers and Construction Manager and update monthly schedule.
  • Interface with transit authority representatives, utility providers, and local agencies.
  • Review and understand the projects’ plans and specifications to support job set up activities.
  • DOT project experience preferred.
  • Strong adherence and promotion to OSHA and Project Specific Safety Policies.
  • Document daily field activities and provide technical input to identify and resolve design problems.
  • Determine crew structure for optimal performance on projects.
  • Present production work plan to crews.
  • Work with Quality Staff to coordinate proper inspections and testing for assigned scopes of work.
  • Responsible for ordering and coordinating equipment and materials to complete production on budget and schedule.
  • Supervise and guide Site Engineers to ensure their work aligns with the project’s technical requirements, schedule, and overall construction objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 10 years of relevant experience on large-scale infrastructure projects and heavy construction Industry: civil, roads, bridges, tunnels or similar project.
  • Hard working person with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in reading construction drawings and interpreting specifications.
  • Construction site experience is desirable.
  • Education to include civil engineering degree, construction management or equivalent combination of technical training or related experience.
  • Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), AutoCAD and MS Project, Aconex, Procore, BlueBeam and basic knowledge of Primavera 6.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to use drafting software to develop construction means and method plans.
  • Good understanding of how to read engineering drawings, documents and site plans.
  • Experience with and understanding of Engineering tools/equipment, automated systems, remote tooling systems.
  • Flexibility to work in both field and office.
