Job Description:

Position Overview

The Specialist I, Logistics position is responsible for logistical coordination of a relatively complex nature.  The scope of responsibility could be rail/truck/container management, tracking movement and inbound/outbound commodity; external management of shipping schedules, serving customers by arranging for carriers, rail cars, and containers in the shipment of commodity product; or a combination thereof. 

Key Responsibilities


  • Focus on supporting sales by providing customer support through freight negotiations, data collection, inventory control and customer requests

  • Work with processing plants to ensure ideal internal processing plant scheduling

  • Research and maintain market knowledge and track rate and regulation changes to make logistics decisions and negotiate terms that are competitive and meet company goals

  • Provide customer assistance in processing of orders/deals, convey pertinent information throughout the process, monitor shipments, and address customer inquiries as to status or issue resolution.

  • Manage administrative processes surrounding logistics which could include managing system information and providing reports and data, resolving claims and issues, information input and auditing for billing/invoicing, and ensuring proper logistics documentation is obtained/completed.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement of processes and policies in support of organizational goals.

  • Receives instruction, guidance and direction

  • Overtime will be required during peak times

Minimum Qualifications & Skills


  • Bachelor's Degree required (or the equivalent in work experience)

  • 1-3 years' relevant experience required

  • Handle and adapt to pressure effectively, ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; and the ability to motivate and work with a team into achieving set goals.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
