Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan Overview

Meadow Lake is in the northwestern part of Saskatchewan in the boreal forest. While it was originally settled in 1799, it became the 14th city in the province in 2009. It has a population of just over 5,000 and serves as a main business centre for the northwestern area of Saskatchewan. It is also the second-largest city in the province, coming in after Lloydminster. The climate is humid continental, categorized by chilly and windy winters with temperatures below zero and a lot of snow. In 1997, the city hit a new record with 58 centimetres of snow. The cost of living in Meadow Lake is fairly low in comparison to other parts of Canada. Housing and education are especially affordable, so it is a great location for families. The province also provides tax credits to encourage healthy lifestyles and educational pursuit, which makes it even more affordable.

The major industries that make up Meadow Lake's economy include fishing, forestry, tourism, livestock, pulpwood, agricultural grains, poultry and dairy.
