The key functions and areas of responsibility for the Naval Combat Systems Engineer include the following: Developing and reviewing combat system related technical documentation including equipment specifications, installation and maintenance job instructions; Performing Life Cycle and Materiel Management functions including but not limited to equipment obsolescence, material compatibility and disposal management; Providing technical support of deficiencies of equipment or capability; Conducting technical investigations into problems associated with combat systems, equipment and/or software issues, including root cause analyses, risk assessments and solution development; Manage the preparation of combat system related design change documentation including manufacturing drawings, maintenance and installation instructions, and test and trials documentation; Analyzing requirements associated with baseline changes to the ships configuration, equipment and software; Preparing Work Packages and cost estimates for customer approval; Preparing documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers; Developing engineering plans, processes and procedures related to combat systems as well as ship based software; and. This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, the Canadian Industrial Security Program, the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
