HVAC Technician Job Overview

HVAC is a short for acronym that stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. As a technician, you're responsible for the systems that control indoor temperature and air quality, either at a business facility or in a home. Thousands of companies have their own in-house HVAC technicians that install, repair and maintain these systems in stores and workplaces. This job usually requires travel to various locations, each with a potentially different HVAC system.

HVAC Technician Job Education Requirements

HVAC technicians need certification or at least a few years of on-the-job experience, so the client knows you're capable. Most jobs require at least a "Gas Technician 2" certification that you can earn in technical school. You don't need an engineering degree, but those who do can expect a pay increase. Becoming an apprentice to a trained HVAC technician is one way to become a technician without previous experience.
