Plumber Job Overview

Plumbers work in houses, businesses, and other buildings all over the country to fit, install, repair, and replace piping systems. Whenever there are pipes or septic systems, plumbers will be needed for installation and service. They must choose what materials are needed to complete a job as well as the best equipment to use for each assignment. They may need to troubleshoot systems that are broken and otherwise fix issues with plumbing, so plumbers need excellent problem-solving skills as well as plenty of patience.

Plumber Job Education Requirements

As with most labourer jobs, employers want a plumber to have at least a high school education or its equivalent. A plumber must have strong verbal skills to communicate with a variety of people while working on jobs. Most plumbers learn the trade on the job, through an apprenticeship or through technical schools that offer programs in plumbing or similar fields. Education for plumbers is ongoing. They must learn local and state building codes in order to do their plumber jobs effectively and legally, so they must stay current and learn new codes as they change.
